Breadsticks

This next recipe is a simple one to serve bread sticks. Now the best side for these bread sticks is definitely mayo & I had made some garlic mayo to go along with them (recipe shall follow later). Now since there’s hardly anything more to describe about the bread sticks, we can directly get into cooking them!!!!

Ingredients
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar (divided)
  • 1 tsp.  Active yeast
  • ½ cup warm water (divided)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Extra flour for kneading

Mix the yeast with ¼ cup warm water (100 ˚ F-110 ˚ F) and 1 teaspoon sugar. Mix and let stand for 10 minutes until frothy .

Mix flour, salt and 1 tsp. sugar in a large bowl. Make a well in the centre and pour the yeast, remaining water and oil. Knead into dough for about 10 minutes. The dough shouldn’t be sticky.

Take a bowl and brush oil on to the sides and place the dough in it. Cover with a plastic wrap or damp towel. Let stand for 1 hour or doubled in size.

Preheat oven to 425°F/ 220 °C.

Punch down the dough and knead for another 5 minutes. Divide the dough in to small balls.  Shape by rolling into thin sticks because it will rise as it bakes.

Place the breadsticks on a lightly greased tray.

Bake for 20-30 minutes or until the sticks turn golden brown.
